Flooring Options to Consider

January 16th, 2025 villagerestoration

Flooring options can be overwhelming!  Before you make any decisions take, consider certain aspects of your home.  What kind of flooring is already in your home?  How high-traffic is the area?  Who will be using the space?  Will the flooring you select match the aesthetic of your overall space?

Let’s break down some of your options.  We’ll talk price points, pros and cons, and items to consider before making your decision.

Hardwood

We install more wood floor than any other type of flooring, and for good reason!  You have plenty of options when you go with wood flooring.  You’ve got different species of wood, different stains on those woods, and the ability to refinish the floors down the road if they get worn down.  Additionally, you have the ability to decide the size of your plank, and the pattern you lay the planks in.  Chevron and herringbone wood floor patterns are becoming quite popular, or the planks can be bricked for a more traditional look.  We are also seeing a lot of homeowners decide to go with wide plank wood floors.  These larger planks give the wood grain a chance to really shine through, as well as give the illusion of a larger room.

Additionally, you have the option of using engineered hardwoods or reclaimed hardwoods depending upon the style you are hoping to achieve.  Hardwood floors are a great option, but can be the priciest.

Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP)

LVP has come a long way over the years!  This flooring is made of vinyl, just as the name suggests.  It is a more affordable option than hardwood floors, but can give the appearance and texture of real wood.  It has become a great, durable option for spaces with pets as well as in areas like ours where people are often coming in off of the beach or the pool.  There are a lot of different options in terms of plank size and finish with LVP as well. Some LVP can withstand water making it an option for spaces with appliances that could leak like washers and dishwashers.  LVP can show wear sooner than hardwood floors.

Tile

You will most often see tile come in porcelain, ceramic, or stone varieties.  Tile can come in a wide variety of price points depending on the material of the tile you select. Tiles come in a variety of patterns, colors, and textures.  Tile is durable and easy to clean, which is why it is ideal for a bathroom or kitchen backsplash.  You have the freedom to play with different patterns and mix colors.  Tile is a great place to really let your design style shine in a space.  If you are concerned with the return on investment in your home, there are plenty of neutral tile options that would appeal to the majority of buyers.

Carpet

Carpet is another affordable option for flooring.  The insulation of carpet can result in noise reduction.  Additionally, it can be a good option for homes with young children learning to walk or seniors, as the carpet can reduce the risk of injury as a result of falls.  The biggest con of carpet is that doesn’t always wear well, especially in high traffic areas of the home.  Additionally, it is not suitable for areas prone to moisture like bathrooms, and can be difficult in a humid climate like ours.
