Originally known as The Mosquito Cottage, this 1860 home truly was a treasure, but the owners dreamed of a more livable space. By converting a full bath into a powder room, we opened up space between the family room and kitchen, exposing original wood beams and making it more airy and accessible. We replaced a cramped spiral staircase with a traditional staircase leading to the great room from children’s play room and bedrooms, providing both safe access and a grander entrance. Retaining and refinishing original doors and repurposing them as pantry cabinets helped maintain the mystique and history of this home while giving it a fresh, modern look.
